Coordination Control Method for Toll Station of Freeway and Adjacent Intersection

Abstract: Aiming at the problem of traffic congestion between toll station and the adjacent intersections, a coordination control method based on the Webster’s delay model for toll station and the adjacent signalized intersection was proposed. Firstly, the traffic demand of the intersection and the toll station in the next signal cycle was forecasted through detecting the basic traffic flow data of upstream. Then under the constraints of preventing the ramp, the toll station and the signalized intersection from congestion, with the objective function of average delay time of vehicles in the whole area, a coordinated control model for toll station and the adjacent signalized intersection was built, which makes capacity matching by coordination control of the actual capacity of the entrance and exit of the toll station and the signal timing of the intersection, and through the setting of the weight coefficient, priority will be given to clearing the queuing of the entrance and export traffic. The case simulation results show that the method can effectively alleviate traffic congestion which provides a theoretical method for the coordination control of freeway entrance and exit restriction and urban road signal.
