Effect of Calcium Carbonate on Imidization Extent of Polyimide

Abstract: Polyimide has excellent mechanical properties, heat resistance and chemical stability. Although its porous film is one of the best lithium-ion battery separators, the porous polyimide film prepared by removing CaCO3 particles (as pore-foaming agent) out from polyimide/ CaCO3 composite was brittle. In order to explore the reasons for its poor mechanical properties, the polyimide/ CaCO3 composite materials and the related porous polyimide materials were characterized by XRD and IR spectroscopy. The results showed that:the pore-foaming agent CaCO3 particles could be removed selectively from the polyimide/ CaCO3 composite materials by 1:1 hydrochloric acid. The imidization extent of polyimide materials was only 80% when CaCO3 particles were added as pore-foaming agent.
