An Efficient Balance Scheme Between Continuous and Real Time Playbacks for Streaming Media

Abstract: Continuousand real time playbacks are important QoS requirements for streaming media application and there should be a balance between the two factors.An effective balancealgorithm named PBB is proposed.In PBB,each receiving end host has an adaptive bufferin order to reduce delay jitter.In addition,a given controller is adopted to modulate the size of buffer so that unacceptable end-to-end delay is avoided.At last,the simulation evaluation gives the comparison between PBB and classic algorithms.The results show that PBB can achieve a good balance between continuous and real time playbacks.
